Kratom tolerance and how to avoid it

As in the case of many substances, some users have reported the development of tolerance kratom with regular use. This can result in a situation where the individual needs to consume more kratom in order to obtain the desired effect. As with many aspects to the use of kratom, each user experience is unique and, therefore, tolerance also varies.

How kratom tolerance occurs?

To understand how kratom tolerance occurs is important to understand the mechanisms by which the kratom affects our body. Kratom contains compounds called alkaloids and metabolites called 7 – hydroxymitragynine and mitragyna. When an individual consumes tea or capsule kratom, alkaloids and kratom metabolites are absorbed through the digestive tract and enter the blood. When present in the blood are transported to the brain where act on neurotransmitter receptors in the brain.

When a metabolite or alkaloid binds to a receptor physical sensation occurs. Mu and delta opioid receptors in the brain are affected by the kratom and opioid analgesics, it is why kratom can produce similar effects to opiates. In the case of kratom, the act of binding to the receptor causes antidepressant effects and analgesic properties. If any other substance binds to receptors before metabolites and kratom alkaloids join them, this prevents our bodies experience the effects of kratom. Such substances are known as antagonists and basically counteract the effects of kratom.

Over time, the biology of receptors in our brain can change. If someone takes opiates or kratom regularly, the receiver sensitivity can be changed, that is, the receptors become less sensitive and the individual must consume more kratom in order to achieve the desired effects.

Also, the body may also develop a slightly different form of tolerance kratom through the enzymes used to process kratom and its constituents.

In response to regular use of kratom, our body can increase the speed at which the enzymes that process kratom occur. This causes the kratom decomposes at a much faster rate, which, in turn, causes fewer alkaloids and metabolites enter our system. When there are fewer of metabolites and alkaloids capable of binding to receptors in our brain, the effects of kratom are moderated, which we must take more kratom to enjoy the desired effect.

When we talk about tolerance, each individual is unique. Many moderate users say they do not develop any tolerance despite months and years of continuous use. Other users say the development of tolerance is a matter of a few months.

A small portion of users have spoken about the development of a “permanent” tolerance, but apparently these cases are associated with the consumption of excessive amounts of kratom with other medicines for an extended period of time.

Tolerance and different forms of kratom

There is anecdotal evidence to suggest that kratom extract is associated with more reports of tolerance and a faster development of it compared to other forms, such as powder kratom. The reason for this is that kratom extract contains a higher concentration of “active ingredients” so to speak: mitragyna and 7 – hydroxymitragynine. Moreover, the extract contains less kratom compounds that act as antagonists. In the leaves of kratom are natural antagonists that bind to the receptors, however, since the kratom extract does not contain these natural antagonists, the user feels the effects of kratom more intensely after taking a relatively small sample amount.

Overcoming tolerance kratom

In order to reduce tolerance kratom, the user must take a break to allow the neuro-receptors are restored. Over time, these receptors return to their natural state. When the individual returns to resume kratom consumption, recipients will be affected as if for the first time.

Many enthusiasts kratom also choose to change the type of kratom. There is a phenomenon that some call “the only strain syndrome,” which seems to occur when the body components found in a specific variety of kratom becomes acclimated.
